“God doesn’t sleep nor slumber…” so we can!
I can’t tell you how many people have said, “ Well if there are 10,000 other minutes in our week, then you have to take out 4,000 of those for sleep…”
I heard my hero Dallas Willard talk about this very notion. He referenced 2 scriptures:
Ps. 127:1, 2 “1 Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. 2 It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.”
Dallas suggested that perhaps our sleep is the most trusting time of our week. We are more vulnerable, weak, and out of control in our sleep than possibly any other time. Do these ring true for us or what? How many of us struggle with sleep? How many of us are addicted to controlling the outcome of things or everything? Has anyone here experienced this phrase… “In the middle of the night when worry finds me?”
We toil and strive, toil and strive, anxiously toil and strive all day long that leads into our nights. A huge part of loving God well is actual surrender. How surrendered are you? How’s your sleep?
Ps. 121:4 “God doesn’t sleep nor slumber…” so we can!
We can either practice surrender, or we can practice toiling and striving today.
10,000 MINUTES Practice: Practice Surrendering all things to the One who is at work in all things and doesn’t sleep nor slumber…so we can!
