The Invitation To Rest

Friends, if you’re just checking in, or you’ve been walking with us for awhile, you’ll know that we’ve been practicing simply BE-ing WITH Jesus. It’s been so good for my soul and the amount of stories that we’ve been receiving from you have been so encouraging and powerful! Beautiful!

I’m really excited about this next mini series of blogs and 10000 MINUTES practices related to some of Jesus’ invitations particularly in Matthew 11. We may have read this scripture a thousand times, but Jesus’ point is for us to take it the next step beyond “reading” and “hearing” and into practice/action. Not out of a place of shame or of earning God’s love, but out of a place of Aligning to the heart of God all day long!

Ok, go with me in this:

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”  (Matthew 11:28-30 NLT)

Oh, the invitation for REST. What would that look like for you this week? Here’s The Message version of this which captures it so beautifully:

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

We are going to begin this series with the first few words, “COME TO ME”. We are going to dissect the heart of Jesus for us in the next few weeks, but let’s just start here. Come to me,  with your thoughts, worries, questions, doubts, thankfulness, hopes and desires.

It’s not hard to go to Jesus when we realize that we’re loved and pursued by Him. The problem comes when our ambitions, questions, anxiety, lusts put the focus off of Jesus and onto how we are going to cope with this stuff of life. Come to me is Jesus’ actionable way of reminding us and inviting us to RE-ALIGN all day long. The practice is for us to check in all day long.

10000MINUTES Practice:

Breathing Prayer:

Breathe In: Jesus

Breathe Out: Jesus

Then tell Him your thoughts, hopes, questions, things you’re thankful for, etc...

———————————

P.S. This week let’s just be aware of how often we come to Jesus/ align to Jesus. NOT in a shameful way and not to see how holy we are, but just to take a heart inventory. Then we will move on towards action in these following weeks. I guarantee, by the end of these practices, we will see and experience Jesus in a whole new light!

Jesus = Rest, Peace, Love, Joy...
