What Jesus Wants From You

I have loved practicing this “WITH Jesus” concept instead of FOR Him. I’ve found myself entering into situations where I would’ve normally done things on my own or for God, but have made an intentional practice to do them WITH Jesus instead. My whole outlook changes.

This past weekend as I got on the plane, I traveled WITH Jesus. He was the one to open up some beautiful conversations, not me...go figure. When I sat with a new friend that shared his journey of recently losing his best friend and sister to cancer, I prayed for and sat with him differently, because Jesus was there with us. When I went on stage this past weekend, I practiced the awareness of Jesus WITH me and WITH everyone in that place. I didn’t do it FOR Him, but WITH Him.

Think of all of the times that Jesus refers to doing life WITH Him:

• Jesus with Peter inviting him out of the boat and onto the water WITH Him.

• Over and over again Jesus invited His soon to be disciples to FOLLOW WITH Him.

• Take my yoke upon you...find rest as you do life WITH me.

• Mary and Martha story where Jesus affirmed Mary for simply being WITH Him.

  • Luke 10:38-42 “Lord, You do not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?” (doing FOR) Jesus: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things… Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (being WITH)

• All of the abiding WITH/IN talk from Jesus. Stay attached to me (Jesus) and you will find rest, joy, fullness, life…

  • To Abide is to Dwell. Make your home WITH...Settle in. (john 15)

  • Jesus said, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

• My Holy Spirit will be WITH you.

  • Groans on our behalf...WITH us. (romans 8)

  • We are the temple/dwelling place/home of the Spirit of God.

• We are co-heirs with Jesus in the Kingdom of God..WITH.

• Buried and raised to life WITH Jesus. (ephesians 2:5-6)

• Come to me all you who are burdened and heavy laden for I will give you rest...WITH.

• In Jesus’ last moments with His friends, He said “Friends go make disciples...for I AM WITH YOU till the very end.”

And we can go on and on and on…

Sure we do things for those we love and are attached to, but it’s out of a place of WITH-ness that we need to start. I promise people. Try this with us this week. I’ve written WITH on my wrist everyday, and what a difference it has made on my week.

Think about your last week. What events happened where you were aware of being WITH Jesus or not?

Pick a time or event where you know you’ll be tomorrow. What would it look like if you were aware of being WITH Jesus during it? Practice it!
