Are you ready for a concept that has completely rocked my world these past 6 months?

We live out of the overflow of our hearts (Luke 6:43-45). Everything we do, say, and think comes straight out of how our hearts have been shaped. For example, you and I see God in very different ways because of how our hearts have been shaped throughout our lives.

Do I hear a DUH from you yet? It may seem extremely simple and almost elementary, but it’s changing the way that I see everything. How’s that for an endorsement! This year we are going to be working through this lens as we discover the real Jesus and learn how to follow Him. I’m so crazy excited for this next year! Jesus lead on…

Who or what has shaped your heart? I made a list and here were some high/low lights:)

• cancer, divorce, Hilary, parents, sisters, my bffs, leaving Mariners, Stan, JCPenney magazines as a kid, Dallas Willard, the awareness of the real Jesus and His Kingdom, watching first porn as a kid, heartbreaks, practicing Jesus, having kids, mentors, successes, failures...

Here is Jesus on this subject:

“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks (our lives live out) what the heart is full of."        Luke 6:43-45

Everything has been used to shape my heart, and I live out of that reality. I only know what I know. I can only see as far as I can see with the tools that I’ve received. So this week’s 10000MINUTES Practice is more about awareness than anything. Please take a second to make a list of past things and events that have shaped your heart!

PRACTICE:

Make a daily log of the things that shaped your heart today. (use your phone notes or a journal to keep the list...then share it with someone else. Maybe invite a friend to do it with you!)
