Do You Want To Be Well?
Do you want to be well? This is a dangerous question. In some areas of my life, I will scream it from the mountaintops that I want to be well. Not only do I want healing, but I am, in fact, claiming it in Jesus’ name! I am so ready for my “Incurable Cancer” diagnosis to be deemed Cured by Jesus. And on the other hand, there are many areas in my life where, sure I want healing, but I’m not willing to get up and do anything about it. How dumb is that! But I bet you’re with me in some area of your life. If you’re not then please stop reading this blog and go eat kale chips or something (don’t really know what that meant. It just felt right:).
Read: John 5:1-15
5 One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” 7 “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” 8 Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” 9 Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking!
Are there areas in your life that you are resigned to being sick. Hopeless? Powerless? Maybe it’s in a certain relationship, addiction, poor self identity, etc that you’re finding yourself crippled with unhealthy patterns. Have our sicknesses become our permanent realities, that therefore muddy up our identity? What do we need to walk away from this week that’s keeping us sick?
I’m not promoting walking away from your spouse because your relationship is toxic. I’m just asking the question.
In John 5, Jesus healed a lame man by asking him if he wanted to be healed. He invited the man to get up and to get into the healing pool where this man had laid for so many years and not found healing. He’d lost hope. Now, remember that (as far as we know) Jesus didn’t heal everyone that day. Maybe He left a few of them for His followers to heal? But what we do know, is that there was a question that Jesus invited the sick man to answer and an action for him to take.
I don’t know what this looks like for you this week, but I do know that Jesus has invited us into healing. So this week we are going to practice trusting Jesus for His part of our healing and practice doing our part:
PRACTICE
Breathe in: YOU ARE GOD
Breathe out: I TRUST YOU
-There are Discussion Questions coming later each week!
